Welcome to Bernie's Two Minute Friday where we will invite you to take a couple of minutes out from your busy schedule to read about what is happening in the world - all with a St Bernard’s Old Collegians focus.
We wanted to provoke some reminiscing of years gone by, so we're going to dig into the St Bernard's Archives and fish out some memories! We'd love it if you have photos from your time at St Bernard's and would be willing to send them in to share with us!
The year was 1991, The Gulf War begins, with Prime Minister Bob Hawke giving battle orders to the Navy stationed in the Gulf after a call from President Bush Professor Fred Hollows is named Australian of the Year. The Adelaide Crows play their first game in the AFL in front of a sellout crowd at Football Park (now AAMI Stadium) , Dustin Martin is born!

Calling all past participants of the ‘Marby 150 Charity Run’
This year is the 40th running of the College Charity run, formerly known as the Bendigo 150. It is with sadness but much excitement that St Bernard's and St Columba's announce that this year the 40th Annual Charity run will be a Virtual Run.
The event will take place on Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of October 2021. St Bernard’s and St Columba’s would like to encourage all past runners to find their vintage Marby 150 singlets and run/jog/ walk a lap around the Maribyrnong River in recognition of the 40th anniversary.
Any pictures and/ or videos taken would be greatly appreciated and can be emailed to iromanin@sbc.vic.edu.au
With the AFL Season over for another year (Yes, we're sad too!) we wanted to take the opporuntity to congratulate all Old Collegians currently playing at the AFL level, it was a cracker of a season and we are all looking forward to watching you next year
Greg Pluzinski reached out to the College to let us know the game we all know and love has arrived in Europe!
Greg was part of a Rotary Youth Exchange for one year and got to experience all things Australian!
“Thanks to St Bernard's College where 25 years ago during my Rotary Youth Exchange year - I got into AFL. Earlier this year an AFL tournament was played in Europe and I had a chance to represent my country in the National Team Polish Devils”
Well done Greg – Great to see!
In this week's around the College, James Swinton (Year 11) brings us this fantastic performance of Shufflin in F, originally composed by Jim Snidero.
Well done James!

Annual Giving at St Bernard's College Foundation
Our College’s determination to create the best available Learning Institution for boys is certainly a high priority. Since 2008 through the generous support of the St Bernard’s College community, the Foundation has been able to provide over $600,000 in bursaries and scholarships, as well as over $750,000 to assist with the provision of the state of the art buildings and facilities.
But there is still so much more to be done.
A Gift to our Annual Giving Campaign from you will have a direct and immediate impact on the students of St Bernard’s College.
With your help, we can continue to provide Catholic boys of Essendon the opportunity to fulfil their dreams at St Bernard’s College.
Gifts are tax deductible.
We are always on the look out to highlight the achievements & successes our Old Collegians have attained. If you have a story to share, or any feedback to provide regarding what type of content you like seeing in Bernie's 2 Minute Fridays please let us know!
