The focus of this camp was to support students to examine the relationships between humans and the outdoor environment since 1990. This camp is a case study exploring societal relationships with the Bunurong Coast reflected in different forms of conservation, recreation, primary industries and tourism practice.
Students engaged in activities at Caldermeade dairy farm to look at water retention and regenerative farming practices, they engaged in conservation activities at Carney’s reserve in Wonthaggi, removing tree guards and collecting rubbish as part of the South Gippsland Conservation Societies efforts to revegetate the site. They built wildlife boxes with the Phillip Island Nature Parks rangers before watching and learning more about the conservation efforts to support the little penguins.
Students also engaged in a number of surf lessons with offshore surf school, learning more about the Bass coast and how to best protect this playground of ours.
